Massage Schools in Bangkok

In Bangkok the mainstay of traditional Thai massage is the massage school at Wat Po. It is here that the ancient ways and means of thai massage was recorded (in stone) so it would be a testiment to all who would practise it down the ages.

While we at OTRT don't really feel the need for learning the art of thai massage others may. It is also useful to know a bit about Thai massage, especially when you might be receiving a massage and want to know where they originally learnt their skills.

While Wat Po, or Temple of the Reclining Buddha may be well-known to the hordes of tourists that visit it each year, it is also a knowledge base and House of Massage.

The ancient methods of Thai massage were recorded here on the orders of the Thai King Rama I. To this day they are kept and used as a means of medicine, health and treatment.
Not all massage schools have been founded from Wat Po, but almost all use the teachings and methods taught here. Considered the mecca of massage in Thailand any who learn here learn from the best teachers and instructors.
It is not just massage that is taught here though. Herbal remedies and recipies are taught too along with diagnosis of ailments.
Wat Po massage is found in Old Bangkok alongside the Chao Phraya river, almost any taxi driver will know where it is such is its recognition.

A Sukhumvit-based massage school.
The prices here are average.

Phussapa Thai Massage

You can find this school in Banglamphu. The emphasis here is on the Chiang Mai / Lanna style of Thai massage.
