Temples Of Chiang Mai

Temples or Wats have been built in and around Chiang Mai for hundreds of years, stretching right back to its founding in the 13th century. Many are renowned throughout Thailand. The inner city of Chiang Mai is considered a religious mecca by backpackers and tourists who point out it has more temples per square mile than Bangkok. Indeed it comes as no suprise that Chiang Mai has temples almost as old as Bangkoks.
In and around Chiang Mai there are several mountain and hill temples that make for a worthwhile visit, the most famous of these is Doi Suthep just west of Chiang Mai. Other noteworthy Wats include Wat Prathet at Doi Saiket.
