The Big Yamaha Sports Bikes broke onto the Thai bike scene from about late 2005 owards. First Bangkok then Chiang Mai began to market a fleet of them to the mass public. The XJR 1300, Fazer, R1 and R6 all being pushed into Thai Market. This was a challenge that Honda seems not to of met yet as they have no new big bikes to challenge Yamaha's growing hegemony of the big bike scene.
The Yamaha gamble has paid off and they have sold very well, despite initial doubts of them being affordable.

The R6 bike is not cheap to buy, but they are cheaper than importing a Honda equivalent model as the import fee's show. The R6 is a mid-sized sportsbike which is fairly decent in city-traffic and is a half-decent tourer if properly equipped.
